By the end of the morning road snowfall and ice warnings had been lifted, but they were earlier in place in parts of the Queenstown Lakes district and Central Otago.
Road snowfall warnings were lifted for Lindis Pass (SH8) the Crown Range Rd and Porters Pass (SH73) by 11.40am.
Snow flurries were forecast today on the Milford Road (SH94) and were likely to continue at the weekend. The road may be affected on Saturday and Sunday.
Ice warnings for SH85 between Alexandra and Ranfurly and SH6 in the Kawarau Gorge had been lifted by late this morning.
Danseys Pass Rd near the summit would remain closed until 12pm until a truck that got stuck was towed, but a Fulton Hogan spokeswoman said this was not weather related.
Instead it was a case of driver error and the "wrong truck on the wrong road".
A police spokeswoman said they were called just before 8am this morning to a one vehicle crash in the Kawarau Gorge section of SH6 between Cromwell and Queenstown.
The driver was uninjured in the crash, near Crawford's Hill on the Queenstown side of Roaring Meg, but the road was reduced to one lane as of 8.45am.
