Three youths allegedly ran from the scene after crashing their car in Queenstown yesterday, leaving a fourth to face the music.
Sergeant Chris Brook, of Queenstown, said the four locals, aged 16 to 18, were heading towards Frankton about 6pm when the car mounted a traffic island in Frankton Rd near Marina Dr, smashing a pedestrian barrier and "writing off" the car.
Although three ran away, police were able to identify them all and were to speak to them today.
They were all learner or restricted licence holders.
The car, owned by one of the youths, was involved in a driving incident in Arrowtown about two hours before the crash.
They were all facing potential court action, Sgt Brook said.
