A thrilling relay win by Neptune was one of four gold medals won by Otago competitors on day three of the national age-group swimming championships.

The club’s girls 15 and under 4x400m freestyle team edged North Shore by 0.05sec.

Jessica Scott, Zoe McCane, Natalie Hutchens and Erika Fairweather swam 4min 05.34sec to edge the Auckland club.

Fairweather managed a second gold, this time with a bit more breathing room, in the girls 14 200m freestyle.

She swam 2min 04.45sec to win by almost 5sec, claiming her third individual gold of the championships.

Scott also got in the medals in the girls 15 50m butterfly, swimming  29.06sec to finish third.

Tame Govaerts-Paul once again showed his class in the breaststroke.

He won the boys 16-18 100m final in 1min 03.43sec, while Kiwi’s Madison Wills claimed silver in the girls 14 grade of the same event.

Benjamin Silipo, of Wanaka swim club, won the region’s third gold.

He finished behind New Caledonia’s John William-Dabin, but his time of 5min 07.60sec was the fastest of the New Zealanders in action.

Caitlin Deans secured another silver for Neptune, finishing the girls 16-18 freestyle in 2min 06.01sec, 0.5sec behind first-placed Eve Thomas.

With two days to go, Neptune was sixth on the overall club standings on 1731 points.
