War memorials spruced up

The Mosgiel War Memorial near Gordon Rd has been given a spruce-up ahead of Anzac Day commemorations.

Jay Ridgway from Archer's Contracting got to work with a a 6500psi waterblaster yesterday.

Mr Ridgeway said he was working his way through a four-page list of memorials throughout Otago.

He said it was "very rewarding'' cleaning the memorials.

"Those men died for us.''

The memorials did not tend to suffer from the vandalism issues he encountered on other cleaning jobs, he said.

"No-one ever graffitis these.''
