All white, so it's a cloud

A different type of cloud formation was seen over Dunedin and Mosgiel yesterday morning.

MetService consultant meteorologist Ross Marsden said that while he originally thought the formation was a contrail from a jet engine, further examination of the photographs and others from around the city, suggested it did not have the typical features of one.

Mr Marsden now believed it could be cirrus streak but he had not seen one that originated isolated in the sky and was pencil thin.

He was keen to know how it formed and to see further photographs of it in its early stages.

Anyone with pictures of the cloud formation in its early stages can email them to rebecca.fox@odt.co.nz
