Design stage starting for Wanaka South primary

Wanaka's new primary school within the Three Parks development on the outskirts of Wanaka is a step nearer as the Department of Education has announced the ``design stage has begun''.

Ministry of Education head of education infrastructure service Kim Shannon said, ``We are currently working through the procurement process to secure a design team, so it is too early to confirm an exact construction date but we anticipate it will begin later this year.''

Wanaka South primary school will be built in two stages, the first stage catering for 400 pupils and expected to be completed in 2019.

The second stage will include additional classrooms enabling the school to accommodate up to 800 pupils and is expected to be completed by 2020, she said.

The (Three Parks) site also has sufficient room for the school to expand if required, she said.
