Men are invited to join the global campaign to end violence against women by registering for a $5 buffet breakfast, at the Frankton Ale House, on Thursday.

Wakatipu Abuse Prevention Network men's supporting community worker Merv Aoake said the 7am-to-9am event aimed to promote White Ribbon Day and raise awareness of domestic violence.

There would be no sermon, or speeches, other than thanks to the sponsors, Queenstown firms Berry and Co, Mactodd and WHK, and the Frankton Ale House, Mr Aoake said.

"Violence towards women and domestic violence is not an issue often talked about.

Friends, family, neighbours and community members may be suffering from violence at the moment, and there can be a lot more earlier intervention if people are more open about it and ask questions."

Principal, Duncan Fea, said WHK backed White Ribbon Day and the breakfast because domestic violence was "a New Zealand-wide issue and we're part of New Zealand".

"We would like to support a cause going towards changing men's attitudes of violence against women."

Berry and Co partner Maurice Maxwell said bringing the issue to the forefront gave people the opportunity to check their own behaviour.

At least 15 men had registered so far and more were expected.

Flyers were distributed around Glenda Dr and Frankton and in Queenstown this week, Mr Aoake said.

"There's been a very positive response so far and that's really encouraging."

The breakfast initiative was a first for the campaign in the Wakatipu.

The Ale House was very supportive, and it was chosen for its central location and parking provisions, he said.

The network considered which activity would appeal to men and bring them together.

"Men love food, the timing is before work and I'm sure the bosses won't be too upset if they arrive a little late."

Men were encouraged to book early, as places were limited, by calling Mr Aoake on 027 430-1719, or emailing wapn@xtra.co.nz. by today.
