Fortune director wins two theatre awards

Fortune Theatre artistic director Jonathan Hendry took the double at the Dunedin Theatre Awards.

He won production of the year for Twelfth Night and an outstanding performance award for his role of Malvolio in the Fortune's adaptation of the Shakespeare play.

Dunedin's theatre community gathered at the Athenaeum Theatre on Monday night to honour the year's best.

Three special awards were also presented, to Josh Thomas for services to the Dunedin Fringe Festival and to Nigel Ensor and Peter King for services to Dunedin theatre.

Award winners.- Lighting design, Garry Keirle, Into The Woods; costume design, Sofie Welvaert, Pirates Of Penzance; script/narrative/libretto, Keith Scott, 1917: Until The Day Dawns; set design, Peter King - Twelfth Night; Lindsay Gordon, Into The Woods; innovation (joint winners), Brophy Aerial Studio, Fragments of a Dream, Dunedin Medieval Society, The Bookworm, Amanda Jane Brosnan - Ghost Soldiers; ensemble, Pirates Of Penzance; performance, Jonathon Hendry, Malvolio in Twelfth Night, Bryony Skillington, Feste in Twelfth Night; emerging talent, Lydia Bernard, Shaun Swain; visiting production, That Bloody Woman; community theatre, Stopping Violence Dunedin - Stories To Heal Violence; director of the year, Lewis Ablett-Kerr - Never The Sinner; production of the year, Twelfth Night.
