A person was taken to Dunedin Hospital after a ute crashed into adjoining businesses in Kaikorai Valley yesterday.

A police spokeswoman said a ute  ran into the Dunedin Carpet Flooring Xtra building in Stone St shortly before 1pm.

The business  adjoins Fusion Plastics and the ute went through  a  window. A Carpet Flooring Xtra staff member said no-one there saw the crash happen.

"We just heard the bang. It shook the building."

She and other staff investigated the noise.

"I kind of just thought ‘oh heck’ and went and saw the person."

A St John spokesman said ambulance services were alerted to the incident at 12.45pm and arrived at 12.54pm.

A person  with moderate injuries  was transported to Dunedin Hospital.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said it attended to assist with traffic control.

No-one was trapped in the vehicle or the building.

It was unclear what caused the incident.
