Godolphin stayer Holberg has been passed fit to run in the Melbourne Cup but Bauer remains under a injury cloud.
Racing Victoria vets, under the supervision of stewards, re-examined both overseas-trained runners on Monday at the Werribee International Horse Centre.
Vets reported Holberg, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, had recovered from a bruised hoof.
However, they ordered another examination of Bauer's near fore hoof on Cup morning after Luca Cumani's 2008 runner-up was re-shod on Monday.
Holberg will be ridden by Frankie Dettori while Kerrin McEvoy is aboard stablemate Campanologist.
Chris Munce is booked to ride Bauer.
