Crews battle Hakataramea Valley fire

A fire in the Hakataramea Valley that started in a tree line had three sheds "totally involved'' this evening, but the threat to a nearby homestead appears to have been averted.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the service was called at 6.10pm.

When fire fighters arrived they found three out-buildings had caught fire.

There were four fire trucks at the scene, and three tankers.

Fire fighters from Kurow, Duntroon, Otemamtata and Waimate were attending.

Work to fight the fire was still under way at about 7pm.

"The homestead was threatened for a little bit there, but our guys have worked well to make sure that's all covered.''
