There are no New Zealand-trained horses in this year’s Melbourne Cup.

Cambridge galloper Jon Snow was  ruled out  on Saturday  before the cup field was drawn, due to  lameness in his near foreleg.

The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman-trained galloper was  deemed  to be  too lame to compete.

For the second time this spring, after Bonneval’s lameness scare before the Caulfield Cup, Baker  and Racing Victoria vets  had  differing opinions.

"He’s got a very shallow foot in his near fore, but he worked brilliantly this morning and [jockey] Stephen Baster said he felt great and he’s been the same throughout his career," Baker said.

"They said he’s two out of five lame and there’s not much you can do about it.  . . . There’s not much wrong with him in my opinion."
