No-one was injured when the empty trailer came loose from a van which was travelling down Stanley St into town.
The trailer crossed the road and hit a parked 2001 Subaru Legacy at 1.45pm.
Constable Aaron Redaelli, of Queenstown, said no-one was in the car at the time and both parties were insured.
Inquiries are continuing.
