The 14th and final bridge on the Gibbston River Trail was carefully lowered into place yesterday.

Steel spans 23m long were trucked from Wanaka free by PBT Transport before being bolted together and lifted into place by Smith & Crane Construction.

Gibbston Community Association chairwoman Susan Stevens said the bridge created a "loop" near the middle of the trail at Peregrine Wines so track users had the option of looping back to the trailheads at AJ Hackett Bungy, or Waitiri Creek Wines.

The walking and biking trail would "definitely" be open this summer, Mrs Stevens said.
