Lakes Leisure recreation co-ordinator Alana Talbot said 50 children aged between 5 and 12 had been taking part this week in junior and senior school holiday programmes, with the whole group coming together yesterday for the special event.

Ms Talbot said the children sang the Commonwealth Games "Delhi song" yesterday morning before splitting into groups and competing in netball, hockey, volleyball, "shooting", sprints and relays in the Queenstown Events Centre gymnasium.

The centre's function area had also been decorated in a Commonwealth Games theme, with a special podium erected for the official prizegiving.

The school holiday programme continues from Monday, with activities based at the Memorial Hall in Queenstown.

• Anyone interested in registering their child in the programme can contact Lakes Leisure reception.
