Busts net $35,000 in drugs

Drugs worth about $35,000 were seized and two Queenstown people arrested after busts involving the armed offenders squad in the resort this week.

The Invercargill armed offenders squad helped Queenstown and Alexandra police execute search warrants on Thursday.

Detective Sergeant Grahme Bartlett said a 49-year-old Queenstown man was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply and possession of cannabis for supply.

The methamphetamine had a street value of about $30,000, the cannabis about $1500.

The man appeared in the Invercargill District Court yesterday.

A 31-year-old Queenstown woman was also arrested and charged with possession for supply of cannabis, possession of cannabis, cultivating cannabis, possession of drug-related utensils and theft of electricity.

The cannabis seized had a street value of about $2500.

The woman was bailed to appear in the Queenstown District Court on Monday.

At 5pm yesterday another search warrant was executed at a Frankton address and a 19-year-old male was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis for supply, resisting police and assaulting police.
