Company plans food tours to Dunedin

Dunedin is likely to be on the menu later this year when a tourist operator begins food tours to the city.

Wellington-based Zest Food Tours marketed the city as a culinary spot at the recent Trade and Enterprise New Zealand (Trenz) annual tourism show in Rotorua, co-owner Catherine Cordwell said.

"We were pleased with the interest and we think it can only get bigger," she said.

Dunedin is the company's first South Island destination, joining Wellington, Greytown and Martinborough.

"We were attracted to Dunedin because of the great food on offer, as well as the large influx of cruise ship visitors expected this season," Ms Cordwell said.

Dunedin food writer Judith Cullen would be one of the tour hosts, with another yet to be confirmed.

Ms Cordwell will travel to Dunedin later this month to talk to companies interested in being involved with the tours.

Tourism Dunedin acting chief executive Hamish Saxton said Zest was a well-known brand and company, and people had been impressed it was coming to Dunedin.

"It is great that as a city we have the Zest seal of approval," he said.

Zest was invited to Dunedin late last year by the Dunedin City Council's economic development unit to talk to potential operators, he said.
