The Otago Settlers Museum plans to more than double the size of its popular "Walk Dunedin" guided walk programme, and is training more volunteer guides to provide the extra staff required.
Museum visitor programmes co-ordinator John Ingram said that public participation in the 11am daily walks had risen from 585 in the 2005-06 financial year to 1155 in the year ending June 30.
In September, the museum planned to offer a second daily walk through the central city, departing at 2pm, and also including a visit to the museum, About 95% of participants in the two-hour-long guided tours were overseas tourists, he said.
Fourteen more volunteer guides were undergoing a three-month training programme to support the extra walk, and a shorter walk planned for 9am.
