Racing: Success for little-known sire

Danny B has sired two winners and the pair won races at Oamaru and Kellerberrin (Western Australia) on Sunday.

Call Me Danny, recording his second win in his past four starts, won at Oamaru.

Danny B Good registered his sixth win.

Danny B has left 105 foals in New Zealand in five seasons at stud from 2003.

He was subsequently found in a state of neglect on a Christchurch property and nursed back to health. He is now 20.

Danny B, a son of Albatross, won 55 races from 336 starts for $US462,000 in stakes.

He raced until the age of 13 and took a mile record of 1.51.4 in the United States.

Call Me Danny is owned by Geoff Blight and his sister-in-law Leisa Thomas, of Christchurch.

He was bought for $500 as a yearling by Thomas, who raced a half-brother, Vin Diesel, winner of three races before being sold to Australia.

He bought Danny B Good from Merv Martin, of Hastings, who bought the dam, Call Me Joye (by Holmes Hanover) for $300 at a dispersal sale in 2005.

Call Me Danny is trained at Prebbleton by Robin Thornley, who took over the training of the gelding 18 months ago after he had not measured up for two other trainers.

Amakudari is now in the West Melton stable of Phil Burrows.

The 6yr-old mare, who has not raced since February, won three races when trained by Mark Purdon and Grant Payne.
