The 14yr-old trotter, Raymauwarrhen Sun, is ready to begin his 11th season of racing at the Kurow meeting at Oamaru on Sunday.
"He is going as good as ever," Oamaru trainer and part-owner Warren Bartlett said.
"He has only had had a wee bit of time off with wet weather."
Raymauwarrhen Sun has been ticking over since his last-start win from a 50m handicap over 2600m at Oamaru on May 23.
He has been given a 55m handicap over that distance in a discretionary handicap on Sunday.
That was among four wins in 17 starts for the Sundon gelding last season, his best in terms of stakes earned with $40,196.
He advanced his record to 106 starts for 22 wins and 14 placings for $142,735.
Raymauwarrhen Sun won from a 60m handicap at the Kurow meeting in 2007.
He finished second to Lyalldale Invasion from that handicap last year.
He has won seven races at Oamaru, including his first start in February, 2002, when trained and driven by Patrick O'Reilly.
Maurice Wharton, of Blenheim, has come into the racing ownership of Raymauwarrhen Sun.
He bred the horse in partnership with his uncle, Bert Currie, of Christchurch.
Bartlett and his Oamaru friends, Ray Paterson and Brendan (Henry) Ford, bought Raymauwarrhen Sun as a weanling and leased Wharton's share.
This led to the naming of the Sundon-Lady Afton gelding.
The leased expired on Saturday.
Dexter Dunn has been chosen by Harness Racing New Zealand to represent New Zealand at the world driving championship in New York next August.
The championship over 20 races will be run in conjunction with the world trotting conference.
Dunn (20) ended the season on Friday as the leading reinsman with 168 wins.
It his his third successive premiership win with earlier totals of 146 and 204 (a record) in four seasons of driving.
Motu Young Jacob will be spelled for two months.
He pulled up sore sore after his race at Alexandra Park on Friday night.
"He hurt a muscle in his chest.
He is back to normal but he will go home for a two-month spell,' Tony Barron, his Makarewa trainer, said.
Motu Young Jacob has won twice at Alexandra Park during the winter.
Barron will return home after racing Magnum Opus and Danica Patrick at Alexandra Park on Friday night.
Barron has been campaigning a team in Auckland for the past month.
Danica Patrick will remain in Auckland and Magnum Opus will return to Makarewa.
Magnum Opus won at Alexandra Park on July 23.
Hanovers Patch has been sold out of the stable to Australia.
Flem N Em and Caroline's Cullen have been sold out of the Graeme Rogerson stable to North America.
Flem N Em has won eight races and Caroline's Cullen 10.
