Thousands turned out in Dunedin to celebrate the Chinese New Year and the start of the Year of the Rooster.
A dragon parade wound its way from the Octagon and down Princes and Rattray Sts on Saturday night before reaching the Dunedin Chinese Garden where the crowd enjoyed a fireworks display from 10pm.
Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull and Chinese Consul-General Jin Zhijian attend the event.
Chinese New Year is the largest national holiday in China, which is home to more than 1.3 billion people.
Its timing derives from the ancient Chinese lunar calendar and changes each year.
This year marked the arrival of the 10th Chinese zodiac, the rooster, and a fire rooster in particular.
