A hole-in-one is almost a routine sports event for retired East Otago High School teacher Russell Davenport.
Mr Davenport, who lives near Palmerston, achieved his fifth hole-in-one at the Ardleigh golf course, near Palmerston, on Saturday.
Mr Davenport, an Ardleigh gold club committee member, who is "in his 60s", achieved his earlier holes-in-one over 40 years. The first was at the Otematata golf course in the 1960s.
His next two were at the Waikouaiti golf course in the 1970s and in the 1980s.
He scored a fourth at Ardleigh golf course about four years ago.
Mr Davenport was modest about his achievement, pointing out about 20 players had holes-in-one at Ardleigh over 50 years.
His latest was "suitably celebrated" at the Ardleigh club house on Saturday night.
