The woman behind Tui beer's ''Yeah Right'' billboards has been appointed to the board of tourism giant Skyline Enterprises.

Sarah Ottrey created the campaign in 1994 while a marketing manager at DB Breweries, part of an executive career in multinational marketing that has included stints with Unilever and Heineken International.

Ms Ottrey, who took up the independent director role last week, said she was approached by Skyline after giving a presentation on business growth for the NZ Institute of Directors earlier this year.

Raised in West Otago, she has been living in the resort for almost a year, and worked at Skyline Queenstown's old cafeteria while a university student in the mid-1980s.

She planned to draw on her marketing and growth-governance experience to enable continued growth at Skyline, she said.

But that growth had to be sustainable ''so someone who comes on to the board in 10 to 15 years' time is going to be thankful for decisions made now''.

She is also a director of Ebos Group, Comvita, Whitestone Cheese and an external member of Inland Revenue's risk and assurance committee.

Previous directorships include the NZ Public Trust, Smiths City Group and Blue Sky Meats.
