A motorcyclist is dead after a crash in the Lindis Pass this afternoon.
The man was killed in the single-vehicle crash shortly after 4pm on State Highway 8, understood to be near the summit of the pass on the Tarras side.
Emergency services are in attendance and the serious crash unit is investigating, police say.
The road remains open, but down to one lane around the crash scene.
Police said no further information could be provided at present.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
St John confirmed a male motorcyclist died.
An ambulance attended and called for the rescue helicopter, however, the helicopter was turned back en route as the man died at the scene, a St John spokeswoman said.
The Fire Service is also in attendance and assisting at the scene.
