A survey of Queenstown's Catholics shows support for moving St Joseph's School to Frankton Flats.
Sent out in June to parishioners and school and preschool parents, the survey canvassed two options: redeveloping the existing site near the town centre, or building a school for 300 pupils in Frankton.
Dunedin diocese general manager Gerald Scanlan, who leads the working group steering the issue, said the 220 responses - including a 100% response from parents of school pupils - gave the working group confidence in the accuracy of the survey results.
Other main themes of the responses were that parents liked the existing school's small size but did not like its small grounds and older buildings.
Respondents who preferred the school to stay where it was supported a redevelopment of the site to accommodate roll growth.
Mr Scanlan said the working group would continue seeking feedback and was in talks with the Ministry of Education and New Zealand Catholic Education Office.
``The challenge here is doing that with a degree of speed so we maintain momentum, but also to be fully consultative.''
The full report on the results would be made public in the next week or two, he said.
The working group was actively looking for land but nothing had been secured yet.
