Capital works under budget

The Queenstown Lakes District Council is running 20% under budget on infrastructure capital works projects this year.

Projects include roading upgrades on Malaghans Rd, Hawea Flat, Church St, Lucas Pl and Crown Range Rd and pump station upgrades at Kelvin Heights, Sunshine Bay and Willow Place.

The council's capital works manager, Ken Gousmett, told the council's utilities committee meeting yesterday the budget for all projects was $37.8 million in the 2009-10 financial year.

However, it was estimated the actual cost would be $30.4 million.

"All projects are being reassessed . . . at each key stage and it is often found that projects can be deferred, or parts of projects can be separated out to be completed at a later date," he said.
