The Catlins' landscape and tourist attractions and the needs of small-community residents will be explored by Lincoln University Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students during a three-day field trip to Owaka this week.
Twenty-two students and two facilitators will arrive in Owaka tomorrow and meet local people in the Owaka Community Centre tomorrow night.
Catlins Promotions spokeswoman Raewyn Martin said students had to "gain a familiarity with the landscape of a small part of New Zealand, and engage with the local communities".
Previous tours have been to Stewart Island, Nelson, Auckland, the West Coast and Singapore.
