Kiwi allegedly set partner on fire

A New Zealander is alleged to have set his girlfriend on fire in Perth.

A spokeswoman for Perth police said the pair were at a public park in the suburb of Gosnells when an argument started at 3pm yesterday.

Police allege the 22-year-old man then poured some kind of flammable liquid over his 20-year-old partner and set fire to her.

The pair ran to a nearby house and called an ambulance.

A police spokeswoman said they were taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

She said the woman has extensive burns to her body and face, while the man has less serious burns to his face, neck and hands.

The spokeswoman said a bedside court hearing would be held later today for the man.

He is facing a charge of intending to cause grievous bodily harm.
