Climber’s foot found on Everest after 100 years

The partial remains of Andrew "Sandy" Irvine are believed to have been found on Mt Everest, 100 years after he died alongside fellow British climber George Mallory.

Last month, a team of climbers filming a National Geographic documentary found a preserved foot inside a boot and sock, revealed by melting ice on a glacier, the BBC reported.

Upon inspection, the climbers noticed "A. C. Irvine" was stitched on to the sock.

The pair were last seen on June 8, 1924, about 800 feet below Everest’s summit.

Mallory’s body was found in 1999, however, the rest of Irvine’s body and his camera have never been found.

The discovery might help determine if the pair were the first people to summit Everest, 29 years before Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay reached the top, the BBC reported. — Agencies
