Class Act ten years on: Wakatipu High School

Where are they now?

MATT NICHOLSON

2012: A career in engineering or medicine beckoned for Nicholson, who in 2011 had won the principal’s trophy for all-round academic, sporting and leadership excellence. In 2012, his under-16 coxed-squad won the South Island secondary schools’ rowing championship.

2022: Nicholson completed an engineering degree (first class honours) and now works as a strategy and operations manager for the mobility side of Uber in Sydney. He says he has swapped rowing for swimming "partly due to the rougher water in Sydney but mainly to avoid erg machines".
