Where are they now?

 

ALBY HAILES

2012: Hailes was the No1 ranked under-17 tennis player in the southern region and an accomplished public speaker who had been in the winning Otago-Southland Bishop’s Shield debating team. He planned to become a doctor.

 

 

 

 

2022: Hailes has been living in Whangarei and working as a psychiatry registrar. The food blogger won the third series of The Great Kiwi Bake-off, which aired on TVNZ 1 in 2021, and has been developing recipes for a new cookbook. He has also played representative tennis for Hawkes Bay, Nelson-Marlborough and Northland. 

 

 

 

EILEE ROBINSON

2012: Robinson had won two national rowing titles and her 1st XI hockey team had twice won the Otago secondary schools competition. She planned to step away from sport to pursue a career in medicine.

 

 

 

 

2022: Robinson works as a registered nurse in intensive care at Christchurch Public Hospital. She has science and nursing degrees, a master of health science professional practice and is completing a postgraduate certificate in health sciences, endorsed in advanced clinical nursing. She no longer rows but hopes to be involved in the sport again in the future.
