Mr Woodhouse needed National to get 41% of the vote to become an MP on the list. He told the ODT had been anxious early in the evening but as the party vote swung in National's favour his mood had improved.
The Dunedin North vote, where he polled second behind Labour's Pete Hodgson, had been interesting as it had been "skewed" by the Green party grabbing 4000 party votes.
Until tonight he had been focusing purely on the election - now "I'm looking forward to getting up to Wellington and meeting the caucus."
