Broadcaster Willie Jackson has announced he will not stand as the Mana Party's Tamaki Makaurau candidate in this year's election.

Jackson had considered standing for the party in the Auckland Maori electorate, but during his RadioLive show this afternoon said he had decided not to.

Jackson said he was concerned his standing would split the vote from Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples, leaving room for Labour MP Shane Jones to slip in.

Stephanie Harawira, the sister-in-law of Mana leader Hone Harawira, has put herself forward as a contender for Mana's nomination in the electorate.
