Labour's new MP for Ikaroa-Rawhiti, Meka Whaitiri, will be sworn in as an MP this afternoon.
She won the seat in a by-election in June with a majority of 1659 votes.
The seat was left vacant by the death of Labour MP Parekura Horomia in April.
"I'm quite nostalgic, I've been told I am sitting in Parekura's seat for the oath, so that's probably going to be an emotional time for me."
She said one of her key plans would be focusing on creating and retaining jobs for her constituents.
Ms Whaitiri's maiden speech to Parliament will be on August 6.
