There is speculation All Black great Richie McCaw may have tied the knot with hockey star partner Gemma Flynn in Wanaka.

The gossip wheel has been busy churning and a number of locals and those in the wedding business have spotted the couple in the picturesque South Island town at the weekend.

A number of wedding suppliers told the New Zealand Herald on Sunday that word around town was that the private ceremony hapened on Saturday.

One had spoken to someone involved in the wedding who said the ceremony had taken place.

Another described the organisation of the well-known couple's nuptials as having been quite "hush-hush" in the town.

However, McCaw was spotted out and about in Wanaka on Sunday afternoon - looking casual and relaxed, but without a wedding band.

And some comments on social media indicate that the wedding had yet to take place, with a number of people stating they knew people who had been invited and the ceremony was scheduled for later this month.

The New Zealand Herald has attempted to contact those who've commented to verify their statements.

Flynn, a member of the Black Sticks hockey team, has appeared on Australian reality show Say Yes To The Dress, where she tried on a number of bridal gowns in a bid to find her dream look for her big day.
