Games, Bebo, YouTube, TradeMe topped New Zealanders' searches on Google in 2008, the top local search terms were released this month, but the results also reveal a curious year of internet searches, the Sunday Star-Times reported today.
Those surfing for porn were more likely to live in Taranaki, then Auckland and Manawatu-Wanganui.
Recipe searches revealed cakes were most popular, followed by bread, pie, soup, chicken and muffin.
Many of the terms had not been searched enough to produce a data report but Auckland was the only area where "genital warts" searches registered in any number (spikes were recorded in April and September).
One on one, Ford beat Holden, Marmite beat Vegemite, Hayley Westenra beat Kiri Te Kanawa, art topped sport and the National Party came out ahead of Labour.
Who out there was looking for us? The top three country searches for the word "kiwi" came from New Zealand, Norway and perhaps surprisingly, Mongolia, where Kiwi is the name of a very popular girl band.
