Sir Sam’s Funko Pop fundraiser

Finding a dinosaur bone in your back yard is rare.

But finding Hollywood star Sir Sam Neill selling his personal collection of autographed Jurassic Park Funko Pops might be even rarer.

What is a Funko Pop, you ask?

Funko Pops are collectable vinyl figurines of characters from pop culture, movies and real life, with immediately recognisable oversized heads.

Since their rise to fame in 2010, they have become highly sought-after collectors’ items around the world.

Sir Sam, who played the lead role of Dr Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park films, is auctioning his personal collection of Jurassic Park Funko Pop film characters, which have been autographed by the actors who played them.

The auction through Propstore closes next Saturday and all proceeds will go to Save the Children New Zealand’s work supporting children living in refugee camps.

The lot includes Funko Pops of Dr Ellie Sattler (autographed by Laura Dern), Dr Ian Malcolm (autographed by Jeff Goldblum), Owen Grady (autographed by Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (autographed by Bryce Dallas Howard) and Dr Alan Grant (autographed by Sir Sam).

In a video to promote the auction, Sir Sam showed each of the items up for grabs for movie buffs across the globe.

"They’re all signed. They’re unopened. No-one else has this set in the world.

"They’re absolutely invaluable. And you will want to go for the auction and get these.

"Look, here’s me, rather cruelly with a grey beard and a hat of course ... you won’t want to miss out on this, will you?"

Save the Children New Zealand chief executive Heidi Coetzee said millions of people were being forced to flee their homes every day due to conflict and persecution.

"And at a time when half of the world’s refugees are children, Sir Sam’s generous contribution for child refugees is more important than ever."

Ms Coetzee said Sir Sam’s donation would go towards helping nearly a million Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar — the largest refugee settlement in the world.

Save the Children is providing integrated, inclusive and quality primary healthcare services to refugees and the local host community through its health posts in Camp 4 and Camp 20.
