A notebook belonging to Sir Edmund Hillary will be auctioned off after it was discovered in a box of old books donated by the late mountaineer's caretaker.
The notebook was in a box donated to second-hand bookshop David Thomas Bookshop in the 1980s.
Upon inspecting the contents of the box, Thomas found Hillary's address book, containing hand-written entries of Sir Ed's Auckland and London homes, and those of fellow Everest conqueror Sherpa Tenzing and long-time friend Peter Mulgrew.
The book will be auctioned by Mossgreen-Webb's, who are anticipating a ``lot of interest'' from those looking to acquire a piece of New Zealand history.
The auctioneers expect the notebook to sell between $1000 and $2000.
The book will be sold at Decorative Art Collections on March 1 at 6pm.
