Police are not commenting on reports a 3-week-old baby in hospital with life-threatening injuries allegedly had her throat slashed during an incident in her Invercargill home.
The infant girl, Noklair Milton, remains in a critical condition in the paediatric intensive care unit at Starship Hospital after the Monday morning incident.
Police later confirmed the parents were in the house at the time of the incident, and no-one else was being sought in connection with the baby's injuries.
After the incident at their Princes St home, the baby's mother, Sucharitta Milton, travelled with police to Southland Hospital, while her husband David Milton went with his daughter in the ambulance.
St John Southern Lakes district operations manager Pauline Buchanan confirmed a police officer drove the ambulance to allow ambulance officers to treat the infant.
''The ambulance crew who attended and treated the patient was absolutely focused on patient care, and were very thankful to the police officer who assisted them in transporting the patient to hospital.''
Mrs Milton studied massage at the Southern Institute of Technology, and sells small electronic items over the internet.
Late last year, she received New Zealand citizenship at a ceremony in Invercargill.
Neighbours said that the cordon around the home was removed yesterday afternoon, and no-one had returned to the property.
