Insurgents fired grenades and assault rifles at the US embassy, NATO headquarters and other sites in Afghanistan's capital, while suicide bombers struck police buildings.
At least nine people were killed and 23 injured in the four attacks.
A New Zealand Defence Force spokesman said the attack was complex but there were no New Zealand injuries to report.
"Afghan security forces are leading the response to the attacks. The Crisis Response Unit (CRU) is involved, and the the New Zealand SAS is mentoring the CRU.''
So, the SAS was only "sort of''involved.
The situation was ongoing though and it could change at any time, he told APNZ.
Just last month New Zealand SAS soldier Corporal Doug Grant was killed in Kabul while trying to rescue civilians during a Taliban attack on the British Council on August 19.
