Three earthquakes shook parts of the country overnight.
The first occurred 20km south of Oxford in Canterbury, just before 4.30am. It had a magnitude of 3.5 and a depth of 8km.
At 5.45, a second quake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale struck 5km northwest of Porangahau in Hawkes Bay.
Ten minutes later, a magnitude 2.8 quake hit 5km west of Taihape, with a depth of 16km.
