A magnitude 7.2 earthquake has struck off the Kermadec Islands this morning.
The earthquake was 5km deep and occurred around 7.20am, 126km southeast of Raoul Island, according to the US Geological Survey.
A statement from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said there were no widespread tsunami threats as a result of the earthquake.
"However earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within 100 kilometres of the earthquake epicentre.
"Authorities in the region of the epicentre should be aware of this possibility and take appropriate action."
