Petrol prices rise for third time in week

Petrol prices were increased by 5c a litre today - the third rise in a week.

The major oil companies have raised prices by 15c a litre in the past week, with 91-octane now costing $1.48 and 95 $1.53 a litre.

Gull did not follow suit with the rise in petrol prices today, but lifted diesel from $1.00 to $1.03.

Diesel at the other majors remained unchanged at $1.04 a litre.

Mobil initially added 6 cents to its petrol price, but soon dropped back a cent to match the others.

While the price of crude remains low, the cost of refined fuel, coupled with falling exchange rates, has been blamed for the increases. NZPA WGT co
