Petrol companies have pushed up the price of petrol and diesel by five cents a litre today, despite the New Zealand dollar reaching a 10-month high against the US dollar.
Shell, Mobil, BP and Caltex are now selling 91 octane at $1.68.9 cents per litre and diesel at $1.06.9 cents.
It was the second price rise in eight days.
Automobile Association spokesman Mark Stockdale told Radio New Zealand the increase was "disappointing".
"Although, they are about the same as they were about this time last month."
The cost of importing fuel had been increasing over the last fortnight, he said.
"Oil is now costing $US75 per barrel, which is the highest it's been all year.
"While our dollar is also high - and that's helping us - it's not enough to offset those increases," Mr Stockdale said.
