All four major petrol companies dropped their prices this afternoon - just in time for the long weekend.
The four-cent cut, at BP, Caltex, Mobil and Shell service stations, takes unleaded petrol to $1.72 a litre and diesel to $1.31 a litre.
A spokesperson for Shell said the drop was due to the steadily falling price of crude oil.
"(It's) great news for kiwi drivers travelling this long weekend."
