A Nelson hard shell mussell company will close its doors next week, with the loss of up to 75 jobs.
Sea Health Foods, in Nelson suburb Richmond, would close next Friday, managing director David Hogg told NZPA.
Between 65 and 75 people would lose their jobs, he said.
The business was closing because it was no longer profitable and there had been a drop in the price of hard shell mussells.
The company had been unable to compete with the low prices other mussel companies had been offering, Mr Hogg said.
All staff were on individual contracts, which included between two and six weeks' redundancy payments, which the company was honouring, he said.
"It's a very sad day for the company."
