More snow on the way

Southland and South Otago residents experienced heavy snow showers at times today and should expect more this evening.

The forecast is for 3-7cm of snow above 300m and lesser amounts down to 100m. However, 12-17cm could accumulate in the Catlins area.

After midnight, further snow showers are expected to low levels, especially in the Catlins.

In the 10 hours from 2pm until midnight, Fiordland can expect 17-27cm of snow above 300m with lesser amounts down to 100m.

Snow showers will continue after midnight but will be mainly south of Te Anau.

These weather conditions will place stress on livestock and will be severe for newborn animals, particularly in Southland and South Otago.
