A man broke into an Auckland home and filmed a sleeping woman on a couch while he did a sexual act, a court has heard.
The 36-year-old building contractor, who has name suppression, has denied six counts of burglary, and one each of attempted burglary, making an intimate recording, indecent assault and assault.
The man pleaded guilty to one count of burglary this morning as the charges were read out in the High Court at Auckland.
Crown prosecutor Yelena Yelavich said the man committed burglaries across the Auckland suburbs of Ponsonby, Morningside and Mt Albert in 2011.
She said on the night of September 17, 2011, the man broke into a Ponsonby apartment, where he found a woman sleeping on a couch.
Ms Yelavich said the woman awoke to find the man standing at the foot of the couch and touching himself while filming her lower half.
"Rather than confront the man, she pretended to be asleep."
The man left sometime later and the woman and her partner noticed a wallet, cell phone and keys were missing.
Ms Yelavich said the man carried out several other burglaries in the following months.
Two months later, on November 5, Ms Yelavich said the man broke into a home in Mt Albert where he took a set of keys and two digital cameras.
But he was confronted upstairs by one of the flatmates who lived at the home.
When she asked what he was doing there, the man replied: "I'm here with the girl" before touching her on her bottom.
He then turned and calmly walked down the stairs.
But on his way down, he was confronted by a second woman who stopped him from leaving.
The man is alleged to have hit her in the face.
Hours later on the same night he was allegedly caught inside another home.
Police were called and tracked the man to his home some blocks away.
It is this last burglary that the man has pleaded guilty to this morning.
The police allegedly found property from several homes that linked the man to the burglaries.
In opening the defence, the man's lawyer Mark Ryan said while his client had pleaded guilty to one burglary charge, he denied all the others.
He asked the jury of seven women and five men to pay particular attention to the rest of the Crown evidence.
The trial - set down for two weeks - is due to hear from 40 witnesses.
