Man charged over ramraid

A 34-year-old man has been arrested over a ramraid on a Manawatu service station in which cigarettes and tobacco worth about $10,000 were stolen.

Thieves drove a stolen light truck through a roller door at the rear of the Shell service station on Broadway in Marton, 45km northwest of Palmerston North, about 2am yesterday.

Detective James Middleton of Marton police told NZPA that inquiries had led them to a local man believed to be involved in the theft.

The man was arrested today and would appear in Marton District Court on February 9 charged with burglary and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

Mr Middleton said police were still seeking another offender.
