A Waikato horse breeder convicted of murdering his wife has been jailed for at least 11 years.
In the High Court at Hamilton today, Gregory Meads was sentenced to life with a minimum non-parole period of 11 years.
Meads was found guilty in the High Court at Hamilton last year of murdering his wife Helen at their Matamata farm in September 2009.
The well-known horse breeder shot his wife in the throat four days after she announced plans to end their 12-year marriage.
During the trial, Meads told the court he confronted his wife with a loaded shotgun to uncover "the truth" behind their break-up but he never intended to harm her.
